Your city is full of rooms you walk into without saying a word to anyone in them. 22Blues gives every one of those rooms a line — a question, a small ask, something worth admitting — and puts it in front of everyone standing there at the same time. Answer it on the board and you have something to talk about with the person two tables away; the app’s whole job is to get you to that conversation and then stay out of it. There is no swiping, no matching, no score, and your location is never shown to another member. It is 18+, it runs in Egypt, and it works only when you are genuinely there.

The things we didn’t build.
No swiping, no matches. Nothing in the app points at a person and says “this one”.
No distance on a person. Numbers belong to places. Nobody is ever shown as a number of metres away.
No read receipts, anywhere. Silence looks exactly like a busy phone, on purpose.
No followers, no streaks, no score. There is nothing here to be winning at, and nothing to lose by going quiet for a month.
No location history. We work out which room you’re standing in and then forget the coordinates.
No bio. Describing yourself is the skill you came here to skip.
A note from the founder
This is not a dating app.
We believe technology should elevate life, not consume it — help you enjoy your days more, live experiences worth remembering, and stay genuinely engaged with the world and the people in it. That is where a sense of purpose comes from.
I built 22Blues because of a challenge our whole generation knows: the more connected we became online, the further apart we drifted in real life. The tools that promised to bring us together quietly took the beauty out of being together. This is my answer — technology that gets you off the screen and back into the room, where life actually happens.
